Mrs. Leona Agatha Leach Smith, 69, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2011, at her home, with her loving family by her side. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Wilkinson Funeral Home, Concord, N.C., which handled arrangements. Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Monday at St. James the Greater Catholic Church, Concord. An inurnment service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. James Catholic Cemetery. Condolences may be left at wilkinsonfuneralhome.com. Mrs. Smith was born June 28, 1942, in Montclair, N.J., daughter of the late Leon Leach and Agatha Wolfe Leach. She was also preceded in death by her step-mother, Viola Leach, and brother, Claude Arlington. Leona graduated from Bennett College in Greensboro, N.C., in 1966. In 1992, she obtained her master's degree from Montclair State University. She was a counselor for 33 years with the N.J. State Employment Service and a member of the National Board for Certified Counselors, Inc. She was a member of St. James the Greater Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Women's Guild and sang in the church choir. Survivors include her husband, Bobby Lee Smith; her children, Sandi, Jazmin, Calvin and Anthony Smith; grandchildren, Erika, Maiya, Saniya, Stacie, Callie and Antonio; sisters, Kathleen Byrd and Aileen Izenberg and brothers, Leon Leach and Saul Arlington. She is also survived by a host of other loving relatives and friends.
