R. Charles Martin VIEW PROFILE

Robert C. Martin

MONTCLAIR, NJ - Robert Charles Martin, owner of Martin's Home for Service, passed away in his sleep on Monday, October 5 at age of 72.

Son of Robert B. Martin and Lilian L. Martin, who established Martin’s Home for Service, Inc. in 1952, Robert Charles Martin continued the leadership and followed in his parents' footsteps by carrying on the legacy.

Robert Charles was a 1961 Montclair High School graduate who served his apprenticeship at Martin’s Home for Service, Inc. from 1963 through 1965. He then attended Queens College in New York for business and subsequently graduated from McAllister school of Embalming in New York for Mortuary sciences.

After attending NIT in Maryland for internal combustion engines,  Robert Charles left the funeral home in 1976 to pursue a career as a chemist in addition to doing platform work for Revlon. He then went on to own several hair salons up and down the east coast and decided to take over the family business, Martin’s Home for Service, Inc., in 1986 when his father became ill.

After his father's passing, he sold all of his salons and dedicated himself full time to the funeral home.

He was a member of the National Funeral Directors Association, the American Society of Notaries and was recently named 2015 Ambassador to the Montclair African American Heritage Parade and Festival.

Details regarding services have not yet been announced. Information will be published as it becomes available.

To the family of Bob Martin, as we knew him in our high school class of 1961:

we loved him, he was our "pal" and we send our love and fond memories. If he was in luck and it was a swift exit from this worldly life, God Bless him.
