Indeed a very good guy, extremely smart and very talented artistically.  Always interesting to talk to.  I can't say I'm surprised that he was quite a success in the "real" world.

I second Bob Murphy's comments. Van, a classmate of mine in Advanced Placement Senior English, was articulate, quietly self-confident and focused on the future. I remember how impressed I was to learn he was going to Stevens Institute. Best wishes and condolances to his family.  Andrea Perham

If our class had a nicest guy award back in 61. Van would have won easily.

What a gentleman.

Van was a great schoolmate. We were typically in the same STEM courses at MHS. It was evident that he would succeed well in the business world. We shared a passion for Jazz and exchanged LPs(!) often. We instituted a Jazz Club to reach out to other enthusiasts of this art form. Van was a terrific guy.

So sorry to hear about Van Winston. As all have said he was such a nice friendly classmate. He appears to have enjoyed quite a successful life. I wish his family my thoughts and prayers to remember the happy times with many positive memories at this very difficult time.

As many of our classmates have posted, Van was artistically talented and brilliant in school. I was fortunate to have at least one class with Van (can't remember which one now) and a level of friendship with him. I will try to attach a cartoon sketch by Van that was in the yearbook that belonged to Jerry Dupre. I lost my yearbook copy when our basement apartment was flooded in 1967. During a mini reunion in September 2006, Jerry Dupre let me take his yearbook home so I could make a copy for myself. I am so glad that I have that cartoon now. May Van's family know that he was known and admired by many of his high school classmates.

I first knew Van at George Inness and he was always one of the smartest , nicest guys I have ever known.  He also had a wicked sense of humor.  May he rest in peace in the palm of the Lord's hand.

I well remember the times that Van would joke around with Bill Latouche. Talk about two gifted individuals. It seems that the latest version of Mad Magazine was the center of our discussion.  I located additional current pictures of Van at: https://www.gravesmedley.com/obituaries/Van-Winston/#!/TributeWall. He will be missed by all who had an opportunity to know him.  So long old friend

Van was one in a million. He was very smart, creative, artistic and witty with an elegance and bearing about him of one beyond his years. With all that going for him he was also a really nice guy and a gentleman. Thats a whole lot of character for someone who was just a teenager! The photo posted of him as an adult with that wonderful mustache, suits him to a tee. Judging from his bio, it looks like he fullfilled all the promise of his youth and maybe then some. My condolences go out to his familly. I'm sure he is sorely missed.
